What we do

NEDA is an advocacy group for economic development officers (EDOs). It is committed to lobbying on behalf of its members by:

  • voicing their concerns;
  • emphasizing the value of their jobs;
  • making others aware of the role of the EDO;
  • making others aware of the potential of EDOs to contribute to Nunavut’s economy; and
  • seeking a better of understanding and more input into economic development funding.

Since NEDA became a registered society in 1999, a great deal has been accomplished, including:

  • Currently working through a series of CED workshops that will help communities, at the municipal level, better understand the importance of community economic development and what a plan can do for the community
  • Completing a Socio-Ec project that developed a Socio-Economic Assessment and Monitoring guide for communities throughout Nunavut; delivery of a workshop to use the guide is underway.
  • Providing training at our Annual General Conferences as identified by the EDOs. Assist EDOs to participate in northern trade shows and events.
  • Creating a new website with resources for EDOs which will soon have links to Nunavut community websites and/or splash pages for those without full sites.
  • Producing a quarterly newsletter to showcase events, training and local initiatives across Nunavut.
  • Fostering partnerships with training and funding organizations to meet EDO educational needs.
  • Coordinating, in cooperation with ED&T, regional conferences for EDOs to learn about new programs and policies offered by economic development organizations and funding agencies.
  • Completing a skills inventory of Nunavut EDOs, and regularly surveying to update training needs.
  • Creating and updating regularly a CD-ROM resource toolkit for EDOs.
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Guidelines for the organization
  • By-laws governing the organization
  • NEDA business plan 2009-2011
  • Communications Strategy
