During the 2013/14 fiscal year, NEDA initiated an overall needs assessment of the key training materials of the Association to identify gaps in materials used by the EDOs. After a thorough review of the materials and consultation with the membership and past trainers, it was decided that the first phase in addressing the identified gaps would involve the Community Economic Development (CED) Training Workshop materials.
The CED Training Workshop materials guide the EDOs and other participants through the development of their own CED plan in the context of regional and territorial relationships. The revision required an evaluation of the content and layout of the existing manual; proposing a new approach for a new workshop manual; and the design and implementation of the new approach.
The newly revised manual, in both Inuktitut and English is complete and (subject to funding approval) will be piloted in 2 communities beginning fall of 2014. The manual can be found in the EDO Resources section of the NEDA website under CED Planning Tools.
Shortly, NEDA will be sending out a request for expressions of interest from communities that would like to be part of the piloting of the new materials. NEDA’s funding will cover all of the costs of the pilot CED workshops. If your community needs to create or renew your CED plan, now’s the time to think about applying to become one of the pilot communities for the new materials.
